Scope Of Work

IEPC Conduct energy audit shall look into the heat balances and mass balances of the unit including coal, oil, water, chemicals and auxiliary power consumptions, visit site assess the present status and the availability of instrumentation and to prepare for the energy audit, and to conduct energy audit, understanding the assignment and reviewing Indian legal requirements for performing energy audits. Provide an overview of the methodology for performing audits and establishing baselines including performance test with specific standards and codes: e.g. ASME code or any practical standard methods to be able to analyze the causes and identify the rehabilitation options. Prepare and submit an inception report.
Prepare for the energy audit identifying a list of equipment/ Instrumentation required for audit. Conduct detail audit of all the following systems and auxiliaries;

1. Coal handling Plant.

  • Estimate the average capacity utilization of the coal handling plant
  • Measure the consumption of Motors, (current, power factor)
  • Coal measuring system and quality check

2. Ash handling system and ESP.

  • Evaluate the electricity consumption of ESP in comparison with the design
  • Study the collection efficiency, coal quality, ash property and conditioning including ammonium injection)
  • Study the ash utilization and disposal methods including consumption of water for ash disposal in wet disposal system
  • Power consumption and pump performance of ash handling system

3. Cooling water system.

  • Assessment of cooling tower capacity and efficiency
  • Evaluate circulating water pump performance and power consumption
  • Water circulation, condenser efficiency, and turbine heat rate
  • Assessment of Vacuum system.

4. Boiler and Turbine and their Auxiliary

  • Boiler combustion efficiency (unburnt carbon in ash)
  • Boiler outlet temperature, and excess air level
  • Performance evaluation and Power consumption of ID fan. FD fan, PA fan, Coal mills,
  • Air-preheater efficiency and leakage, flue gas temperature
  • Boiler Feed Pump (power consumption and performance evaluation)
  • Turbine cylinder efficiency and cycle efficiency.
  • Condenser performance and evaluation.
  • Condensate pumps power consumption and performance evaluation.
  • LP and HP heaters performance evaluation.

5. Raw water system and waste water treatment system.

  • Capacity utilization and power consumption

6. Instrumentation and control

  • Evaluate the instrumentation available in the plant
  • Measuring instrumentation at coal handling plant, ash handling system,, Raw water and waste water system

7. Compressed Air System.

8. Insulation of Boiler, Air and flue gas path and Steam piping.

9. Calculate the Boiler Efficiency , Turbine Heat Rate (efficiency) and Heat rate of the plant at 100%, 75%, 50% load with coal-fired (and oil-fired) .

  • Estimate the average capacity utilization of the coal handling plant
  • Measure the consumption of Motors, (current, power factor)
  • Coal measuring system and quality check

10. Fuel (coal & oil) consumption, water consumption and auxiliary consumption.

11. Total Electrical system Audit including Lighting

  • Transformer Load Management
  • Power Factor management
  • Distribution losses
  • Harmonic analysis.

12. Any other test other than those specified above on the system other than the specified as above is required to establish the baseline performance of the unit prior to carrying out Energy Efficient R&M and LE Works of the Unit, it shall be carried out.

To prepare and submit a comprehensive Energy Audit Report based on the results of the performance test and energy audit, and identify causes of efficiency, availability and power output decrease.

Objective

  1. To determine Auxiliary Power Consumption of the station.
  2. To evaluate the auxiliary power consumption of each Unit.
  3. To evaluate the station auxiliary power consumption for common auxiliaries
  4. To measure power consumption for the motors > 100 KW and determine percentage motor loading.
  5. To determine the distribution of power consumption among major drives and systemsfor each unit.

ACTIVITY II: Field Data collection

  1. Record Energy meters readings for Gross generation, Export/Import, UATs and STson 24 hours basis for the duration of audit.
  2. Record process parameters for all identified drives for each Unit at 5-10 minutes time interval (Total 03 nos readings) and record power consumption during this test. For drives not having on line EM, power consumption to be taken by portable power analyzer.
  3. Record process parameters and power consumption for identified common auxiliaries.
  4. Record total power consumption for Coal handling plant, Ash water system, Compressed air system, Air conditioning system and lighting system and power consumption for individual drives having power consumption of more than 100 KW.
  5. Record all the HT transformer load.
  6. Check CVT wiring of gross and export energy meters and record its size.

ACTIVITY III: APC evaluation & Data analysis:

  1. Calculate station auxiliary power consumption through measured power at Unit auxiliary transformer and station transformer.
  2. Calculate APC through energy balance method using below given formula Auxiliary Power Consumption =Total Gross energy – (Total export Energy – Total import Energy) – All Transformer losses
  3. All transformer losses include the losses in all the generator transformers, all UATs and STs if any. These losses are to be calculated based upon the design specifications/Test Certificate.
  4. Calculate Energy Un balance at Switchyard using below given formula & comment for the unbalance and suggest for the remedial measure. Energy Unbalance at Switchyard =Total Net generated energy – (Total export Energy – Total import Energy)
  5. APC from these two methods and comment for the deviations if any and suggest for the remedial measures.
  6. Calculate annual power consumption for Coal handling plant, Ash handling system, Compressed air system, Air conditioning system and lighting system based upon annual running hours.
  7. Record Energy meters readings for Gross generation, Export/Import, UATs and STson 24 hours basis for the duration of audit..
