Conveyance & Risk Mitigation

Engineered to effectively reduce sticking risk while evaluating your subsurface

Safe, efficient, and predictable performance is our commitment to our customers. We have the tools necessary to ensure we get your evaluations completed without worry of sticking tools unnecessarily.

Engineering up front, prejob modeling to mitigate risk

Using *Cerberus™ modeling system for prejob planning on every job, every operation’s risk is quantified. We can customize each job to help prevent stuck tools or fishing operations by using the optimum and safest possible conveyance equipment for any specific situation.

Stronger, more reliable cables

Our ultrahigh-strength wireline cables have a safe operating capacity of up to 23,000 lb of tension. This is enough to convey the heaviest of evaluation tool strings to depths in excess of 7 miles (11 km). The ultrahigh-strength cables also feature extreme crush resistance, making them the most reliable option available for wireline operations in deepwater wells.

When gravity isn’t enough

Our Toolpusher service is engineered to run on the end of your drillpipe when gravity isn’t enough to get the logging string to the bottom of the well. Or, when modeled tension may exceed the cable-safe working load.

Formation and Reservoir Solutions (FRS)

Petrophysical evaluation helps reduce uncertainty and manage risk throughout the life of a reservoir. Hydrocarbon fluid identification, porosity characterization, saturation estimations, and permeability are necessary input data for robust resource estimates. They are also used to formulate a strategy for reservoir development. Our Formation and Reservoir Solutions (FRS) team, along with superior downhole sensor technology, can help you evaluate your reservoirs in the most challenging environments. Our teams are ready to share their global expertise in both clastic and carbonate rocks, as well as conventional and unconventional reservoirs.

Pulsed Neutron Logging

Pulsed-neutron technology is a vital tool for engineers and petrophysicists to find oil and gas reservoirs and manage them more effectively. These measurements give insight into formation and fluid properties of the reservoir and much more. It’s primarily used in openhole and cased-

hole environments to provide saturation, porosity, shale, and mineralogy information of the well. Its versatility also extends to water flow detection and gravel pack evaluation.

Resistivity Logging

The quest to measure true formation resistivity (Rt) has challenged petrophysicists for decades. Our portfolio of array resistivity logging services takes the guesswork out of your interpretations. They provide a value of Rt that’s closer than ever to the true Rt of the formation. Array resistivity tools offer answers at multiple depths of investigation, removing undesired effects and aiding in understanding, visualizing, and even quantifying the invasion process.

Our suite of sensors enables full characterization of the fluid in your reservoir.

Formation Testing

Hydrocarbon fluid identification, porosity characterization, and permeability are necessary input data for a strategy to determine intervals for drillstem tests and robust resource estimations. Drillstring Vibration Monitoring

Drillstring vibration is a major contributor to downhole tool failure. It may also cause hole damage and increase the need for more frequent rig repair. Timely detection and mitigation of downhole vibration is key to avoiding nonproductive time (NPT) and preventing equipment damage. With full knowledge of downhole dynamics conditions, effective changes can be made to the drilling parameters of weight-on-bit, rotary speed and flow rate to mitigate harmful vibration.

Wellbore Surveying

Wellbore surveys provide definitive data that depict the position of a borehole or well path in three-dimensional space. Sperry Drilling services’ wellbore surveying service delivers a comprehensive well positioning approach, generating the necessary risk versus reward analysis and survey program. Sperry can also help ensure survey executions per expectations and provide a one-stop shop for well position information.

  • Early analysis of well position requirements
  • Evaluation of risk versus reward and creation of a survey program
  • Help ensure wellbore construction surveys meet operator and well position expectations
  • Capture of lessons learned regarding wellbore placement
  • Load wellbore data into definitive database
  • Reporting and distribution of final survey

Wellbore Pressure Monitoring

Measurements of the annular pressure during drilling operations have many valuable applications. The tool provides accurate downhole measurement of static and dynamic pressures. Dynamic pressures include both the equivalent circulating density (ECD) and swab and surge pressures from pipe movement when making connections or tripping. Knowledge of these pressures helps to prevent damaging the formation by exceeding the fracture pressure or allowing pressures to drop too low allowing formation fluids to flow into the wellbore. The effectiveness of hole cleaning can be determined by measuring the cuttings build up in the drilling fluid. The occurrence of other drilling hazards can be identified such as shallow water flow events or the onset of annular pickoffs. The tool can also provide accurate leak-off test (LOT) and formation integrity test (FIT) data by measuring the pressure exerted on the formation, creating time savings as it is no longer necessary to circulate and condition the mud prior to the test taking place. Having accurate wellbore pressure measurements will prevent the occurrence of non-productive time events by providing an earlier warning that a problem is developing, allowing the mud system to be maintained in optimum condition to maximize ROP.
